We believe stopping domestic violence is hard but also attainable. Just like any change - what you put into it is what you get out of it.

The CHOICES program provides:

  1. Critical needed information to change the way we view relationships.
  2. The structure and interaction to use and practice the information.
  3. The on-going emotional and social support to implement lasting change for you and your family.

Historical Background

Pennsylvania has been in the forefront in this county in its legislative response to domestic violence. In 1976 the General Assembly enacted the Protection From Abuse Act - the first such law in the United States that specifically provided civil relief to adults and children who are physically or sexually abused by family members or partners.

The Pennsylvania Legislature again clearly demonstrated it recognition of the needs of domestic violence victims with the passage of comprehensive amendments to the existing Protection From Abuse Law in April, 1988. These amendments expand eligibility for protection orders and provide greater legal protection to victims.

While the amendments require that court personnel  provide clerical assistance in the preparation of documents to those victims
