Fred Stubbs is a native of Berks County and has spent at least 45 years working in the social services field providing services to individuals and families. He has expertise in the fields of mental health; drug and alcohol; and domestic violence. In 1992, Fred was responsible for the development and implementation of the first domestic abuse program in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania area, before starting Berks Advocates Against Violence. He currently sits on the numerous boards including, the GoggleWorks, the Council of Chemical Abuse for Berks County, the Berks County Mental Health/Mental Retardation ; the Pennsylvania Center for Intuitive Studies; and the North Washington District (NOWA). Throughout his lengthy career in the mental health field and years of community service Fred has lectured at various academic institutions in our area and provides ongoing seminars and continuing educational opportunities to the lay and professional communities.
Rebecca Stubbs is the co-founder and Executive Director of Berks Advocates Against Violence (B.A.A.V.) an non-profit agency committed to ending violence against women and children. Berks Advocates Against Violence is the first, and longest program in operation for offenders of domestic violence in Berks County. She has sixteen years of experience in the field of domestic violence intervention. Five of those years were spent working with victims and children of domestic violence. She is a recognized trainer, lecturer and consultant on male accountability and was appointed co-convener of the Batterer Intervention Services of Pennsylvania. She had the opportunity to work on the Full Faith and Credit project for the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as testifying before the Pennsylvania State Attorney General, advocating for stronger laws to protect women and children. Rebecca is also considered as an expert witness for the County of Berks in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Stubbs is responsible for the development and implementation of the Bullying Prevention Program in youth centers throughout Reading and Berks county. She worked on the Supervised Visitation Committee that was responsible for the development and implementation of the Safe Haven Supervised Visitation Center that opened in April 2007. Rebecca is a member and serves on the Domestic Violence Coordination Policy Group, the Domestic Abuse Prevention Council and the Fatality Review Committee. Her expertise in the area of Domestic Violence has allowed her the privilege of providing advocacy and outreach in Berks County, while emerging as an activist for the eradication of family and institutional violence.
